With Thanksgiving upon us, I have felt a need to really step up my workouts in a calorie-burning quest that will ultimately end with me gorging on mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. Some people work out to have toned muscles, tight physiques, or improved cardiovascular health....not me! For me, it's all about the epicurean indulgence. Topped with real whipped cream and everything.
So yeah, this week, I've been prioritizing my to-do list and putting intense workout sessions right up there on top. I work out mid-morning after Hayden's been dropped at school, after which I get Riely dressed, fed, and ready for her afternoon at preschool. Once she's at school, I have approximately three kid-free hours to work on graphic design projects, run errands, etc. So for the sake of efficiency, I've been postponing my daily showers until later in the evening, right before bedtime. Which means I'm wearing sweaty workout clothes and a ponytail for much of the day.
Last night as I was tucking her in, Riely asked me sweetly, "Mommy, tomorrow will you be pretty again?" which apparently is her way of voicing the opinion that wearing stinky yoga capris all day is NOT pretty. She elaborated and told me that she doesn't like ponytails and can I please wear my girl shoes tomorrow, not ugly running shoes? I'm fairly sure that if she had the vocabulary, she'd relate to me how mortified she is to be dropped off at school by a mama with sweat-stained clothing and generally looking like an (organic) earth muffin.
So today, for the sake of my little girl, I'm going to try to squeeze in a shower after the work out. And maybe I'll even wear my "girl" shoes. Which means I gotta get this post done and hit the treadmill. :)
I'll leave you with a page of the dear girly and me this past Labor Day. Have a good one friends!
