We wrapped up Hayden's week-long birthday celebration with a casual get-together on Saturday evening. He invited some friends over for a marathon session of Pac-Man Party on the Wii, which led to lots of heated competition, trash-talking, and popcorn consumption. (I'm still finding kernels in my couch cushions.)
It also led to the discovery that I am apparently completely incompetent at selecting a lens and the correct camera settings for capturing boys in motion.
Later, we enjoyed a nutritionally-void meal of pepperoni pizza, chicken nuggets and Capri-Sun. In a pathetic attempt at responsible meal planning, I also offered our guests carrot & celery sticks. Shockingly, they were not popular.
The polar bear cupcakes, however, were a hit.
And devoured with much enthusiasm.
In a flurry of wrapping paper and ribbon, the gifts were unwrapped to plenty of ooooohs and ahhhs. It seems Legos and Nerf weapons are as swoon-worthy to fourth grade boys as Anthro scarves and J Crew cardigans are to mommies.
Of course, you can't get six boys together without the requisite discussions (and demonstrations) of burps, farts, and boogers. Miss Riely wasn't sure what to make of it, so she alternated between surpressed giggles and utter disgust.
I, on the other hand (who can shamelessly burp the alphabet with the right combination of beer and bratwurst) can totally appreciate the hilarity inherent to bodily functions. Of course, if you read this blog regularly, it comes as no surprise that my humor is on a ten-year old level, now does it?
Enjoy your Tuesday, people!
