A few weeks back at a silent auction, we purchased a mini-getaway at a Steamboat Springs condo. With no school on Friday and a three-day weekend looming, we decided it was the perfect time to head up the road and enjoy fall in the mountains.
Though the ski area isn't open yet, we figured we could do some hiking or mountain biking, but the hazy, rainy, and cold weather somewhat spoiled those plans. Luckily, there was still lots to do for entertainment!
We took a quick drive up the highway from Steamboat to tour the tiny town Hayden was named after (his great grandfather homesteaded here!)
We strolled around Steamboat and took in some of the local shops and galleries.
We found piles of leaves to play in.
And creeks to pose by.
And I may have found the perfect pair of cowboy boots to buy (swoon!)
We met up with our friends Dave and Danika and toasted to a lazy Saturday where happy hour begins at noon...
...while Hayden did his best impression of guacamole.
Back at the condo there was a roaring fire in the hearth, football on the tv, and Trivial Pursuit on the table. Does it get any better?
On Sunday we grudgingly headed home, racing a few bucks along the way, and feeling grateful for good friends, gorgeous settings, and getaways like these.
