Though I often use a grid as an easy design framework, my second most-used design is a horizontal (or sometimes vertical) band of elements that spans the width of the page. I usually try to incorporate many of my page elements within that band. When I saw this ticket patterned paper in the July JBS Mercantile Kits, I knew that it would work into this framework perfectly:
I cut out several of the tickets and paired them with some vertical photos of Hayden on his last day of school. Since he was wearing green and orange (I pick my battles, and having him wear color-coordinated outfits is not one!) I picked tickets in those hues, along with brown, grey, and yellow.
I staggered the tickets and photos across the page, popping some of them up with foam adhesive. Then for a bit of added interest, I tucked in some stamped images that I imprinted on a transparency sheet. (I just use plain 'ol Office Max transparencies!) I use black Staz-On ink because it doesn't smear on the slick surface and dries super fast. Then I trimmed them out and added a few of the Basic Grey vintage stamp stickers behind them so they showed through the clear areas.
The title was cut on my Silhouette using the font Arial Black for the word "did" and my own handwriting for the "you" and "it." I just used a brush in Illustrator to draw the words, converted them to outlines and had the Cameo cut them out of yellow paper.
