Over the past few years, I've been trying to rebuild the blazer/jacket contingency in my wardrobe. When I was fresh out of college and landed my first job working in a PR firm, I had invested in a few work-appropriate jackets, but that was the mid-90s and those heavily shoulder padded, thigh-length jackets currently would only be appropriate if I landed a gig as a backup singer in a Sheena Easton video.
In my hunt for some updated jackets, I've realized that quality doesn't come cheap. To get a tailored fit, timeless fabric and decent contruction, you usually have to fork over some dough. And for me, finding sleeves long enough for my gangly arms is always a challenge. So when I happened upon this classic navy plaid blazer at Target (with more than adequate length sleeve and a wonderfully tailored fit) AND it was $39.99...well, you better believe I snapped it up.
This jacket could easily be dressed up over a simple sheath dress, or paired with a frilly lace top, riding pants, and tall boots. But hands down, my favorite way to wear blazers is with jeans and a tee as I've done today. To keep it from looking too collegiate, I layered it over my embellished skull tee. Because nothing says I can drink you college girls under the table like a giant lace-appliqued skeleton face on your torso.
Happy Wednesday, my fashionistas!
