You gotta love a kid who knows his strengths and takes every opportunity to build upon them. That's my Hayden - a self-proclaimed nerd who would choose to stick his nose in a book over just about any other activity. He revels in "further research" on any topic that might spark his interest - from time travel to quantum physics to CGI and animation. I love that he's passionate and proud about his nerdiness, and this layout documents just that!

The Boys Rule line from Crate Paper was a perfect match for this page theme. I love the color palette - navy, aqua, orange, yellow - all slightly muted and distressed for a masculine feel that's not too childish. Since my photos were all different sizes, used a random assortment of shapes clustered together in a funky grid. Some of the small embellishments like a wooden clothespin, die cut arrows and tickets were used to fill in the gaps.
I also added in a few thin circles of cardstock (inspired by the red circle on the on piece of yellow patterned paper shown below) and they help to add some energy and motion to the design, in addition to framing the whole thing with a visual triangle.
I included some clever quotes about nerds on a few of the blocks that help support the theme and match the font I used for the journaling (which is Bohemian Typewriter, btw!) I like spreading the text around the page to keep the eye moving and make the page more dynamic.
Hope you having a wonderful weekend - happy Saturday!
