I've mentioned before that denim shorts are the mainstay of my summer wardrobe, simply for their utter versatility. But every now and then, I get a wild hair and venture outside that comfortable jean zone. Purchasing these floral shorts at Target last summer (still available on Poshmark and eBay) was once such instance, but they've proven to be surprisingly easy to mix and match for different looks. Here are three of my favorite looks featuring these sunny season shorts!
A classic white shirt is always an easy topper for patterned shorts, and given I have several of them (due to my propensity for spilling bbq sauce, chocolate and oh yes - red wine - on myself) it was an obvious choice. I accessorized with my patent leather loafers (old preps die hard) and turquoise jewelry and belt.
I can't resist a good stripe-floral-mix! This pink stripe is great girly option, though the shorts would work with an aqua, green, grey or yellow stripe too. I topped it with my trusty denim jacket which adds some edge and helps keep the patterns from looking too juvenile.
This lightweight blazer is actually another Target find from last summer, and I originally bought it to top red shorts and pair with tan linen trousers. But it's also a great option when I want to dress up these shorts a bit. Though the shorts don't have any of the blue chambray color in them, the blazer still works well, proving my oft-repeated fashion phrase: It doesn't need to match; it just needs to go.
Here are some other options for floral shorts (all currently available). And I'd love to hear how you make your florals go the distance!
