I had a few requests to get off my lazy butt and bring back Wardrobe Wednesday. (Actually the requests were worded much more nicely than that, but I often need to speak sternly with myself in order to ever accomplish anything, so "get off your lazy butt" was what I actually wrote on my to-do list.) And look at that, it worked! Here I am, typing up a post!
My summer wardrobe consists largely of jean shorts and tees, because (1) I'm a mom; and (2) it's a pretty easy combo that doesn't require much thought. And summer needs easy, no?? That being said, denim and tees can get darn boring, so in looking for a way to spice up my summer jam, I discovered the duster.
Originally, the duster was a full-length, light-colored canvas or linen coat worn by horsemen to protect their clothing from trail dust. I'm not doing a lot of trail riding on horseback these days, but my house IS full of dust bunnies, so I figured I might as well invest in some protection. I started looking for a longer length top that was lightweight and could be worn open (think kimono, but with more structure!) After some searching, I found this sheer plaid version at Nordstrom Rack. It's sheer, lightweight, and perfectly covers my backside. Hello new summer uniform!
Not only is the duster great for adding some color & pattern to simple shorts and tees, but it would also make an ideal swim cover up. And once fall rolls around, I can see it with a turtleneck and leggings, so it's a safe bet I'll be grabbing this baby to wear year-round. This exact duster isn't available anymore, but I've linked some other similar versions below. You can find them at all price points and they really are a fun addition to your summer wardrobe. And who knows, maybe wearing a duster will inspire me to actually dust?? We can always hope!
