Lately I've been playing hooky from the blog in the name of all things summer. Sneaking away to the pool when I should be working....sipping birthday cake Slurpees when I should be having a protein shake...and convincing the family that Food Truck Tuesday is definitely better than my cooking. My new mantra is #moresummer - are you in?!
And to try and make up for my absence here, I have a little giveaway today, so be sure and scroll down for a chance to win a fun little goodie. I've used it on my featured page today - a big & bold two pager!
S U P P L I E S :
One of my favorite ways to make a two-page canvas seem less intimidating is to use different colored cardstock as my background. Something about seeing two smaller squares makes it easier to design than one large rectangle! I do try to select background papers that coordinate in color or pattern so there's some consistency, but having defined "halves" of the layout is definitely OK! On this one, I opted for a darker aqua cardstock on the left and a softer shade on the right.
To make a connection between the halves, I positioned my photos and patterned paper mattes to span across the center of the layout. Yes, that means I have to splice a photo in half when this goes in the album, but I overcame that fear when I saw how much easier it makes the design process!
I clustered several tags together to create both a title block and a spot for documenting some of the page details. The pink tag contains a mix of stamping and printed journaling. I simply drew a text box in Word the size of the white area, typed my journaling, and printed it onto plain printer paper. I then used temporary adhesive to attach the blank tag to the printer paper, positioning the tag where I wanted the journaling printed. (It helps to put your page up against a window or lightbox to see where to put it!) Then I printed it again on the paper with the tag attached for the result you see above.
To fill some of the blank space in the lower right, I added a stitched flight trail for my paper airplane (which was fussy cut from the same paper as the sun!) It fills the space without cluttering it, which is key since I want to keep the focus on the photos!
And now the fun part - it's giveaway time! The stamp set that I used on this page (and is also featured in the Spring 2016 SCT Delivered Kit, Sunny Days) is up for grabs! It's a versatile mix of titles and text with some cute seasonal icons perfect for scrapping and cards alike. And how adorable is the little bunny, all ready to be dressed up with a bow tie and fluffy cottontail??
If you'd like to win this stamp set, just leave me a comment today telling me your favorite way to play hooky this summer. I'll pick a winner on Monday, July 18 and will announce it here. Now go enjoy the day!
