Last Saturday, Mike let me spend a few hours with the other man in my life, my hairdresser, Eddie. Since we moved to our new house, my salon visits had been put in the Extravagances budget category, so it had been over a year since I'd seen Eddie. And clearly, that's the reason I've become so cynical. That and my split ends had splits ends of their own.
So I was in serious need of a haircut, color, and all the extras that accompany such an outing: uninterrupted time to read the latest celebrity gossip mags, the intoxicating smells that only an Aveda salon can produce, and a heated discussion over who will win Project Runway this season. And did I mention the free chardonnay?
But despite my unwavering beliefs in the power of the salon, Mike was unimpressed with my transformation. Apparently, he thinks dropping that much cash should result in some more dramatic changes. Ah, how the subtleties of beauty are lost on the menfolk! So, for the benefit of men everywhere, let me present the physical evidence: (photos by Hayden!)
1. The after hair appears approximately 3 inches shorter, and is blissfully free from split ends, allowing my obsessive mind to focus on other things, like, say, feeding our children.
2. Despite the limited color knowledge of most males, there exist more colors than "blonde" or "not blonde." There is in fact, a grand color spectrum of brown hues, as is evident in the darker after shade, which resembles a fine espresso, and has eliminated all signs of brassiness. And the possibility that I might be mistaken for Carrot Top.
3. The fresh highlights offer slight contrast and texture. (I can almost hear the male audience's eyes glazing over right.about.now.)
4. Most notably, observe the relaxed (and dare I say optimistic?) expression on the after photo. This is a huge improvement over the slightly psychotic Jack-Nicholson-As-Joker grin in before. Though it is questionable whether this is due to the haircut or the chardonnay.
In conclusion, the exhibit clearly shows a drastic improvement in not only hair appearance, but mental stability as well. And for a fraction of a therapist's session. Money well spent, wouldn't you agree??
