Due to some clever planning on my part, our advent prompts for this weekend included Go Ice Skating and Have Breakfast with Santa. And since Saturday was filled up with a basketball game, haircuts, and assorted Christmas shopping, we managed to cram both activities in on Sunday.
We started off the morning with a delicious breakfast buffett at the clubhouse (there was BACON! and SAUSAGE! and can you tell I'm a fan of breakfast meats?!?) and of course, the big guy himself was there to take note of our Christmas wishes:
After finishing up brunch with a trip to the chocolate fountain dessert bar (not quite worthy of the all-caps-and-exclamation-points like breakfast meats, but yummy nonetheless!) we waited the requisite hour before heading to the ice rink* for skating.
*By ice rink, I mean a weird plastic-y surface sprayed with water that kind of simulates ice. Since we're currently experiencing balmy temps of 65º here in Colorado. Where it is supposed to snow. And blow. And always be white for Christmas. (I'm pretty sure it's in the state constitution.) I'm feeling a bit gypped right now.
Anway, despite the lack of real ice, we managed to strap on the skates and glide around for a bit without anyone breaking bones, twisting ankles, or needing stitches. (Again, it's a Christmas Miracle!)
While it's pretty safe to say we won't be forming a family ice act and touring the country performing (the three eldest family members think skating is too dang hard on the ankles) we did have a fantastic time. Miss Riely plans to come back to the rink soon to start perfecting her axels. And we plan to cheer her on from the sidelines, sipping our cocoa and wearing comfortable footwear. :)
Hope your weekend was just as enjoyable!
