Our advent prompt from yesterday was one of my favorites: Read a Christmas story or book!
I have been collecting various holiday books since before the kids were born, and we have a pretty extensive collection of classic Christmas tales and new favorites. I keep them stored with our Christmas decorations, so they only appear during this time of year. I think that makes them more special since they only get read during the countdown to Christmas.
(The Bob the Reindeer book by Sandra Boyton is my personal favorite. I've read it so many times that I've made up songs for each of the six stories and I sing them like Christmas carols. Why yes, I am a dork!)
Last night the kids selected the book Snowmen at Christmas, a fanciful tale about the adventures of snowmen on Christmas Eve while the rest of the world sleeps. Hidden in each illustration is a Santa, mouse, reindeer, cat, and T-Rex that we all try to find. It was a great before bedtime read in front of the fireplace!
So what are some of your favorite holiday reads? Do share!
