Five on Friday | Fall Fashion Essentials

1. Show's Cove Parka ($99.50).  I'm so ready for the weather to cool off so I can wear this new jacket with the 32 outfits I've planned and filed away in my brain, along with other useless trivia like: Who was the only Cheers cast member to appear in every episode?* So yeah, they call this jacket a parka which is a bit of a stretch considering it's a light-weight cotton, but I know I'll get a ton of wear out of it before the snow falls. Extra details like the drawstring waist and jewel-encrusted cuffs make this rugged piece just a bit more feminine, but this H&M option is pretty cute, too. And either would look stylish while sitting at the bar drinking a beer.

 

2.  Mix & Match Heel ($158.99) I only wish I'd seen these Poetic License booties a few weeks earlier as I've already spent my bootie budget on another pair of lace-up leopard heels (see #4 below!), but I'm drooling over the mix of colors and textures on these. These would dress up jeans and a flowy blouse, or take a pencil skirt over-the-top. And if you're looking for something not quite so funky (and a bit easier on the wallet), check out these Crown Vintage booties as a tamer alternative.

 

3. KUT from the Kloth Catherine Slim Boyfriend Jeans ($42.25 - on sale!) These really should be called best friend jeans, because they are so soft and comfy you'll want to spend a lot of time in them. Not to mention they're roomy enough to let you consume that extra cupcake without reminding you that it went straight to your thighs (like a best friend should!) This KUT style is on sale now, but I also love the 1969 Sexy Boyfriend Jeans from Gap.

 

4.  I'm not a huge animal-print fan, but I've decided that in small doses, it definitely has a place in my closet. I'm especially partial to leopard print, since it's technically a neutral and you can wear it just like you'd wear brown or black. So don't be afraid to add something wild to your wardrobe this season! These leopard mary janes from Target or this sleek leopard clutch are budget-friendly, in good taste, and will definitely make you smile. (All traits that coincidentally, are also desirable in a beer.)

 

 

5.  Season d'Etre Scarf ($24.99)  I'm pretty sure it's the law in Colorado that you have to own a scarf for fall. We've been know to pass some crazy-ass laws here. Ahem. But hey, the same way a pumpkin spice latte makes your tummy warm and happy, a scarf keeps you cozy and comfortable when the temps start to drop. I love this scarf's autumnal hues over a subtle houndstooth pattern and think it would work perfectly from football game to hay ride to I dunno, the bar? For happy hour?  It must be Friday!

LOST Hangover.

I'm feel like I'm moving in slow-motion today after a late-night marathon of the LOST finale and Jimmy Kimmel's after-show.  Plus all the crying (oh my gosh, THE ENDLESS SOBBING!) I did makes for a puffy and teary-eyed Lisa (so not a good look).  But I'm beginning to feel more content with the ending...just need some time to digest it all.  And come to terms with the end of a six-year relationship with this crazy show and its characters. I'm trying to keep in mind what Damon tweeted yesterday:  Remember. Let go. Move on.  { s i g h }. Do I need to get a life, or what??!

So anywaaaaay....I did want to say thank you to everyone who stopped by and left such kind words about my book.  It means a heck of a lot to me! I've contacted the three winners of the drawing (Random.org picked commenters #4, #87, and #103) and hope they'll enjoy their eBooks.  And even if you weren't one of the winners, I hope you'll check out the book anyway.  I think it's a pretty darn good deal for $5.99. More Effective Than South Beach, Though Admittedly Not As Glamorous

I had fully planned to write up a full Oscar fashion review today, but since I slept through most of the pre-show and awards, I don't think I'd have much to write about.  You see, about 2:00 am on Saturday, my stomach decided to stage a revolt against something I had eaten, and proceeded to violently expel it contents for the next 48 hours.  Lovely, I know.  So, I spent the bulk of this weekend either curled up in the fetal position on the couch, or face-down in the toilet.  Not the most fun way to lose 5 pounds, let me tell ya.

Today I seem to be on better terms with my stomach, as it's allowed me to consume some tea and toast without a protest. But I'm laying low and trying to catch some of the fashion reviews online.  So, if you have an opinion on last night's red carpet, by all means, fill me in!

Happy Friday!  I'd post more, but I am too busy researching Michael Faraday and electro-magnetic induction.  All you Losties will understand.

Super(bowl) Hangover

Because isn't that really what the whole event is about - eating tons of fried, cheese-covered foods??  Luckily, we opted for the light beer, because without that, we'd likely be pushing our daily caloric intake limit.  I'm just glad this year's Super Bowl fell in February, so I was free from those pesky diet resolutions I made last month. (Oh, YOU make YOUR resolutions for THE WHOLE YEAR?  Well good for you. Ya freak.)

We watched the big game from the comfort of our living room and during the four hours of quality couch time, I was amazed by quite a few things: (None of which, coincidentally, involve the actual game itself).

• The general lack of quality advertising, with the exception of Budweiser, who, even though they make beer that tastes like donkey urine*, can really produce some fantastic ads.  Who doesn't love dalmatians, draft horses, and Will Ferrell?!
• Bill Bellichick leads an undefeated team to the biggest game of the year, broadcast world-wide, and his wardrobe choice is a sweatshirt with the arms cut off.  Classy!
• One of the commentators used the word demonstrative in a sentence.  Correctly.
• Tom Petty pulls off one of the best halftime shows in ten years.  And he didn't even have to show a nipple.

So, today it's back to work.  I had a client call yesterday wanting to know if I could pull together some publicity pieces for an event that takes place in approximately 18 days.  (Read: Can you totally rearrange your schedule and make this project top priority and create some absolutely fabulous designs with little to no direction??)  and of course, I answered that would be no problem whatsoever and I'd have proofs ready by the end of the day. (Read: My hourly design rate just tripled.)

Off to earn a living!  Happy Monday!

*Disclaimer: I have not actually tasted donkey urine, but I have had a Bud Light, and neither is something I wanna drink.

And Suddenly Life Has More Meaning

Tonight's the night!  After an excruciatingly long hiatus, season four of LOST begins this evening.  And with the WGA strike resulting in a totally a craptastic cable line-up, could it come at a better time?  Oh, Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Sayid....how I've missed you!  You are the crack cocaine of my television viewing. I may even grill up some polar bear steaks for dinner.

Yeah, I'm a little psyched for the show tonight.  Probably too much, according to my husband.  Is it wrong to have a television show bring you so much happiness?  Well, when you spend most of your time viewing Dora and Yo Gabba Gabba, I have to think that LOST offers my brain some much needed stimulation.

So with that, I'm fastening my seatbelt...nine hours and counting!
