Santa For the Win

It's official - Santa knows the way to this girl's heart (aka denim & boots!) On Christmas morning, I was thrilled to discover a new pair of Madewell overalls and these gorgeous BedStu boots under the tree. And I wasted no time styling them both, throwing on a long cozy cardigan and declaring it a very merry holiday, indeed!

I already own a pair of black overalls (they were a part of my fall capsule) and while it may seem redundant to have two pairs, they are a definitely staple in my Mom Wardrobe and truly versatile for year-round wear. The higher waist of the Madewell style means shirts stay tucked in and the muffin-top is well concealed. Plus the skinny styling is flattering no matter what your shape and the super-stretchiness of the denim makes them so comfy. These are not the overalls you wore in the 90s, I promise. (But if you want to lip-sync to Vanilla Ice while wearing them, I certainly won't judge!)

The Plaid of Christmas Past

I do realize Christmas is in the past, but since it's still technically the holiday season, I'm wearing my Christmas plaid, goshdarnit! This scarf is too darn cozy to keep in the closet, and it also just happens to be perfect for the bitter winter weather we're getting around these parts. Wrapped over the top of a soft sweater tunic and it's almost as comfy as my pjs (which I will probably be changing into promptly at 5 pm!).

Another super comfy wardrobe item I'm LOVING lately are these American Eagle High Waisted Jeggings. They are seriously the softest, stretchiest denim that's oh-so-flattering. And when you're (meaning ME) eating Christmas cookies for breakfast every morning, that's quite the accomplishment. LOVE them and they are currently buy one, get one 50% off. Another Day, Another Plaid

As the minutes to Christmas tick closer, I'm not feeling the stress of last-minute tasks like shopping, baking or wrapping - I'm only feeling the pressure to wear all.the.plaid! Most of the plaid pieces in my closet are perfectly wearable all winter, but I feel like I'm not doing them justice if I don't showcase them during the holidays. This scarf was a part of my fall capsule and it's so soft and cozy (probably why it saw lots of action these past few months!) I love it paired with a red sweater for an easy, festive look. And P.S. this sweater is currently on sale for $9.99 at Target, but it's selling faster than the elves are working in Santa's workshop!

So as the Christmas Countdown continues, I do have quite a few more plaid things I'd love to style but I think the one I am most looking forward to wearing is my plaid flannel pjs. Which I plan to live in all next week. Happy holidays, indeed!

Bathrobe Chic

I was so excited to find this plaid coat at Nordstrom Rack a few weeks back, because 1) it's plaid, 2) it's the perfect weight for layering over heavier sweaters, 3) it was marked down to $43 and 4) IT'S PLAID, DO YOU NOT KNOW ME AT ALL?! I wear this festive pattern year-round but the month of December brings my plaid obsession to new levels. And despite the fact that my family says it looks like an old lady bathrobe, I've been wearing this coat a lot lately. I refuse to take fashion advice from people that can't even remove their underwear from the inside of their pants before putting it in the laundry bin. 

This coat is perfection over my other pattern favorite -  stripes - and plays just as well with polka dots too. And the fact that it's super duper comfy doesn't hurt a bit. In fact, I may just thrown it on over my flannels pjs for Christmas morning and let my family marvel at how truly versatile this piece of clothing actually is. Or would that just be proving them right? Either way, I'm thrilled with my coat/robe purchase. All Hail the Egg Nog.

I'm not a frequent Starbucks customer, though I've been known to suck down a few Latte Brevés during times when I need and extra boost (or twelve) of caffeine. But when the calendar signals the arrival of the all-hallowed red cups, I find myself bee-lining for Starbucks on a very regular basis. Add to that the fact that our local dairy (which delivers our milk in glass bottles to a cute metal box on our porch) offers the most amazing egg nog in all the world during December, and you've got a perfect situation for adding on some holiday weight. And while I have no problem emulating the Jolly Old Elf during Christmastime, it does it make more challenging to get dressed!

Enter the flowy tunic. I'm grabbing anything that drapes away from my body these days, and this tunic is one of my favorites. Layered under a cozy sweater, it's festive and comfy and most importantly - it's loose. And it's also equally wearable in warmer weather with cut-off denim and sandals, so it's truly a versatile piece. Not only does it help disguise the fact that I ate Christmas cookies for breakfast, it also assures there's plenty of room in my gut for an afternoon eggnog latte (or eight - who's counting?!)

The Abominable Bumble

The classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer happens to be my very favorite holiday movie. Not because of the creepy puppetry and big bully reindeer, obviously, but because of the adorably cute (and totally misunderstood) abominable snowman, Bumble. That and the fact that any Christmas tune sung by Burl Ives turns me into a puddle of feelings. Gah. I always think of Bumble whenever I don my beloved faux fur vest since it's also white and fuzzy and often misunderstood as well. (Mostly by my hubby, who can't understand why I'd want to wear anything so closely resembling a Muppet). 

But this furry vest makes me smile and it's also incredibly cozy - two things that I always welcome in my life. Today I threw it over a ruffled blouse which alone, would have been waaaaay too short to wear with leggings. Like capable of causing moral revulsion. Dare I say...abominable??  But the vest saves the day by not only covering my posterior, but also cozy-ing up the whole look. Over the knee boots (which, not coincidentally, give a slight nod to Santa's elves) and a chunky statement necklace complete the look.

All Target, All The Time

It's no secret I'm a devoted fan of all things Target, but when I was gathering up the links for the outfit above, I realized just how deep my love for the red bullseye runs. This entire outfit is comprised from my many, many Target runs. The leopard sweater is a perfect mate with a lacy blouse and rhinestone necklace ('tis the season for lots of sparkle!) and the distressed boyfriend jeans help balance out all the girly pieces. And since there's no better way to wear leopard than with a pop of color, the pink shoes were the obvious choice - but red, yellow, or aqua would have been equally fun!

Not that it's a difficult feat to pull together an adorable ensemble from Target finds but I am usually more discriminatory in piling them all on at once. And now I am wondering why?  When it means you can rock a cute look built from bargain pieces, you gotta roll with it. And since my closet is full of said pieces (maybe because I always leave Target with 15 more things than I went in for?) I'm totally down with some days being All Target. All The Time. Who's with me??
